Sketching at the Beach!

Last week, my mom, sister, grandma, and I went to Wildwood, NJ for a quick 3 day beach trip!

One of my favorite things to do at the beach is (you guessed it) sketching! It is a great place to practice drawing when your subject is in motion (since you can't pause the waves) as well as sketching people. In fact, I'd say the beach is probably my favorite place to sketch people as they are all around you, in their own worlds, and (a lot of the time) sitting or laying still in relaxation. Also, it's extremely easy to reference people (i.e. stare at them) incognito there as you are usually a safe distance away and your sun glasses hide where your eyes are actually looking. [I know, out of context, that would sound creepy but I swear I'm only talking about staring at people for the purpose of art practice.] I do try to draw the people I'm with more anyway, especially since I can ask them not to move for a bit so that I can quickly finish drawing them.

Also, please excuse the messiness of these pages. I tend to sketch very freely and not as precise when drawing these subjects and this sketchbook is also not the best so the ink bled through to a lot of the pages.

(That last picture is from a month ago during a day trip to Island Beach State Park.)

This is really all I'll say today, as I just wanted this to be a short post just to quickly share these sketchbook pages. Next week's post will be a bit longer. It's something I'm really excited to share so please keep an eye out for it!
